Back Sense or Park Avenue Nutritionists Plan

Back Sense: A Revolutionary Approach to Halting the Cycle of Chronic Back Pain

Author: Ronald D Siegel

Based on cutting-edge scientific research into the psychological and physiological factors underlying back problems, as well as the personal experiences of the authors and hundreds of patients, Back Sense presents a safe and easy self-treatment program to end the back-pain cycle forever.

Approximately fifty million Americans suffer from some kind of back pain each year, with chronic back pain disabling one in forty adults. Consumer spending has reached $2.5 billion annually on back-care products, yet this modern epidemic continues to plague people who see little or no relief for their suffering. The usual course of treatment includes rest, medication, and even surgery. These simply don't address the source of the problem. Back Sense proposes a revolutionary new approach, based on the emerging scientific consensus, that most chronic back pain is caused by stress, muscle tension, and inactivity, rather than a damaged spine.

In the tradition of bestselling authors Drs. Andrew Weil, Herbert Benson, and John Sarno, Back Sense offers an optimistic alternative to a life of disability and pain. With sound medical research supporting the recommendations, an accessible voice, and an easy-to-follow self-treatment plan, Back Sense promises to be embraced by professionals and sufferers alike. Part of the exciting new trend toward "integrative medicine," Back Sense draws upon the most useful contributions from alternative and conventional medicine to help readers regain full back function. The authors have discovered that while back pain isn't "all in a patient's head," misunderstandings about its source often lead to worry, muscle tension, and inactivity, which only exacerbate the problem. By understanding this connection and learning how to manage emotional stress, readers can break the cycle of pain and live full, active lives.

Both clinical psychologist Ronald D. Siegel and market research consultant Michael H. Urdang have suffered from chronic back pain. They learned to treat their pain by using a new system of integrative medicine (a combination of East and West) and by staying physically active. In Back Sense: A Revolutionary Approach to Halting the Cycle of Chronic Back Pain, Siegel and Urdang team up with physician Douglas R. Johnson, a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation, to dispel misunderstandings by both sufferers and medical practitioners about the cause and treatment of back pain, based on their extensive research and success in treating thousands of patients.
